Stander crowned Nathan Sharpe Medal Winner
Western Force flanker Brynard Stander has claimed the prestigious 2018 Nathan Sharpe Medal at Crown Perth’s Grand Ballroom after an outstanding season with the Western Force in their inaugural World Series Rugby and National Rugby Championship seasons.
Stander (289) led the player voted medal count by 43 points, followed by flanker Chris Alcock (246) and ‘Rocket’ Rod Davies (126).
A dominant force in the NRC competition, Stander was also recognised for his NRC season taking home the Player of the Year Award and finishing the season with three tries, over 360m run and 85 successful tackles.
The Nathan Sharpe Medal and the NRC Player of the Year Award are determined by each member of the matchday 23 voting for their peers on a 3,2,1 basis.
Mandurah local and Nedlands Rugby Club’s young player Tevin Ferris was awarded the Matt Hodgson Rising Star Medal after an outstanding year saw him compete in the barbarian Wallabies Bledisloe Cup trial match as well as shine throughout the Western Force’s season.
Voted by the Forces’ members, captain Ian Prior was awarded the Members’ MVP Award, followed narrowly by Nathan Sharpe Medallist Brynard Stander.
The Geoffrey Stooke Force Man award was presented to superstar Marcel Brache.
