Force take on Queensland’s challenge
Force centre Henry Taefu believes ladder leading Queensland Country will be a great challenge for the team and one that he is looking forward to.
“Queensland Country are on top of the table so we know that they have been playing great footy,” Taefu said.
“They have strong forwards who get them over the gain line and very skilful backs who are in great form so it’s going to be a great challenge for us this weekend.”
Despite playing a strong game and scoring a try in last week’s disappointing loss against the Canberra Vikings, Taefu has complete faith the Force will step up to the challenge to bring home the win.
“Queensland has many attacking threats so we need to put in a big defensive performance this week,” he said.
“I think last weeks loss is still fresh on our minds so we are going into this game as underdogs.
But we have been playing great footy and we know that we have to go to another level this weekend to get the job done. We had a lot of possession last week for not much pay so this week we need to transfer for that into points.”
Growing up in Brisbane, Taefu is a local who has played with many of the Queensland players before coming west to join the Force and is keen to meet them back on the paddock.
“I’ve played with most of the Country boys either at the [Queensland] Reds or in Brisbane club rugby so I’m looking forward to playing against them,” he said.
“Obviously Duncan Paia’aua at 12 will be a good matchup for me, but also guys like Caleb Timu who I first played at primary school.”
Spending the week on the East Coast between these two games has allowed the team the opportunity to bond ahead of this weekends game.
“It’s been great here in Brisbane, it’s the first time we’ve travelled together as a team for this long so it’s a good bonding time for the team and gives us the best chance to prepare for this weekends game against QLD Country,” he said.
The Western Force take on Queensland Country at Bond University Rugby Field on Saturday, September 22. Kick off at 1pm.
The game will be broadcast LIVE on Fox Sports.
