Tessmann talks tough win over Dragons
After a challenging match against the Asia-Pacific Dragons in Singapore on Sunday, Heath Tessmann’s try was a match-defining moment which resulted in the Force taking a 4-point victory over the weekend.
Tessmann describes the uniquely difficult conditions as something he has rarely seen in his extensive career.
“It was a tough game. It was some of the toughest conditions that I’ve had to play in,” Tessmann said.
“With the combination of the heat and the humidity, it made everything a bit boggy, a bit wet, a bit tough and overall draining.”
But the experienced hooker proved to overcome these natural obstacles by landing the only try for the match, giving credit to the team for their persistent, relentless efforts.
“The pack managed to get together and push them down there in the 22, fortunately, I was just the recipient of being dragged over by the rest of them really,” Tessmann said.
The Force returned home this week for a short turn around to prepare for their clash against the South China Tigers on Sunday.
Tessmann said the team will be spending this vital period in between games to focus on their game plan and set-piece structures.
“For us, we were probably a little disappointed in our set-piece work in that Singapore game. It was trying conditions, so we will obviously stick with what our goals were going forward,” Tessmann said.
On the road for three weeks, Tessmann described the Asia tour as a great chance for the group to bond and grow stronger as a unit.
“It was a great three weeks; it was enjoyable to get together and go away as a team. It’s the first time we’ve really spent a lot of time away in another country as a group,” he said.
“We got to bond and spend a lot of quality time together and play a few different types of rugby which allowed us to grow as a team,” he said.
