Prior primed for milestone match
The Western Force is all set for tomorrow’s blockbuster Round 4 Super Rugby Trans-Tasman clash with the Crusaders following today’s captain’s run in Christchurch.
Ian Prior will be reaching a major milestone of 100 Super Rugby appearances when he makes his way onto the pitch. Having played such a crucial role in the Force’s recent history, Prior is delighted to be achieving the accolade with the club.
“I’m excited to be able to celebrate this milestone and to be coming up against the best team in the competition, if not world rugby, is great,” Prior said.
“When you put your all into anything, which I’ve done since I arrived at the club, in particular over the last four years in a leadership role, I wanted to leave the jersey in a better place and leave a legacy for the next generation.
“I’ve always felt a great connection with the club and the people of WA. I didn’t think about the milestone too much until I received my jersey from Jeremy Thrush. He got emotional and teared up, then so did I when he was speaking about it. To see how much this means to not only yourself, but those you played with is special.”
Captain Kyle Godwin heaped praise on Prior for his leadership and said the squad is determined to mark his milestone and Ollie Callan’s starting debut with a positive result against the Crusaders.
“We’ve had a great training week and we’ve gone about rectifying a few issues from the previous week to ensure we put in a better performance tomorrow. It’s an exciting opportunity and we’re looking forward to it,” Godwin explained.
“Not many people get to 100 Super Rugby games and it just goes to show the kind of determined and quality character he is. He’s a great ambassador for the Western Force and he’s led the boys so well.
“I’m so happy for (Callan), he’s absolutely a quality player, he gives 100 percent and I feel he’s going to be a hidden gem for us tomorrow. Ollie is a WA boy and I’m looking forward to him expressing himself on the professional world stage.”
