Junior Wallaby joins the Force
The Western Force has added further depth to their 2021 Super Rugby squad with the signing of hooker Jack Winchester.
Having won the prestigious John Eales Rugby Excellence Scholarship at Bond University on the Gold Coast in 2019, Winchester brings a wealth of talent and promise to the Force.
Signing a two-year contract with the Force from the Queensland Reds academy, the Junior Wallabies and Australian Schoolboys representative is excited for the upcoming Super Rugby season.
“This is a great opportunity for me,” the 20-year-old said.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to play Super Rugby.
“The mix of youth and experience at the Force is great and it seems to be a team with a very strong culture.
“There’s some amazing names in the squad with plenty of international experience, so I can’t wait to learn from them all.”
Head of rugby Matt Hodgson is delighted to have secured Winchester after Argentinian hooker Julián Montoya, who was scheduled to travel to Perth last month, joined the Leicester Tigers earlier than anticipated due to visa-related issues.
“Jack is a very consistent player who carries himself well both on and off the field,” Hodgson noted.
“His physicality, strength around the scrummage and accurate throwing are all assets that he will bring to the squad. We’re really looking forward to Jack joining the team ahead of the Super Rugby season.”
