Force set for five home showcase matches in 2019
Hot on the heels of today’s announcement that Global Rapid Rugby will launch with a spectacular Showcase Series in 2019, we’re delighted to announce that the Western Force will be playing at least five games at HBF Park here in Perth in front of our dedicated Sea of Blue.
Full fixtures are still being finalised but anticipate games will commence in late March.
What we know already is that Showcase Series will see teams from Asia and the Pacific Islands come together and introduce the innovative new rules and spectacular off-field entertainment that will be a feature of Rapid Rugby now and in the future.
The Western Force will not only display its talents in Perth but also play throughout the Asia Pacific in 2019, a proposition Western Force General Manager, Kim Welch, said the club is extremely excited about.
“We are really passionate about this next step in revolutionising the game of rugby,” Kim said. “The Showcase Series will be a great teaser, showing the world exactly how exciting and innovative Rapid Rugby will be, with the Western Force at the forefront! We are really looking forward to sharing that with our fantastic members and supporters.”
Head Coach Tim Sampson has already started preparations to ensure the Force is ready for a series of highly competitive games this year.
“The squad have been applying themselves incredibly well during the pre-season phase. It is a credit to them as they came back after the Christmas and New Year break in great shape.
“How we evolve this year is important to us and we want to keep progressing on how we played last year. We now look forward to what lies ahead and cannot wait to play throughout Asia and the Pacific, and of course here in front of our loyal members and supporters.”
With the Showcase Series being played in 2019, Global Rapid Rugby will launch its first full season in 2020, where the Western Force will be joined by seven other teams in a $1million winner takes all competition.
