Force maintain focus ahead of Reds clash
The Western Force will continue their quest for victory when they face the Queensland Reds in the Super Rugby AU clash at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast this Friday.
The Force’s return to the Super Rugby fray in 2020, after a three-year absence, has been full of entertaining clashes with the Perth-based club running their Australian rivals close in three out of their five matches to date.
The Force enjoyed the run of play in the second half against the NSW Waratahs last week and will be looking to pick up where they left off when they meet the Reds.
The team showed great cohesion in the final half-hour with the forwards and backs combining well to keep the Waratahs under pressure in their own half.
The coaching team will have been happy with the performance of the scrum last week and will expect a similar display against the second-placed Reds.
The last time these two teams met in Round 3, they were narrowly separated by two penalty kicks in a 31-24 win for the Reds.
The Force, whose record against the Queensland club is the best out of all the other Super Rugby teams – they have won seven of their last 12 meetings – will be looking to that history for inspiration as they strive to again match the strong Reds pack and get their backline attack firing on all cylinders from the start.
The Reds go into the game having experienced mixed results since their last meeting, suffering losses to the Brumbies and the Waratahs and beating the Rebels last weekend.
The mood in the Force camp remains positive with a clear focus this week on the next 80 minutes against the Reds.
Centre Richard Kahui said the bond in the team was as strong as ever.
“Our culture and camaraderie is as good as anything I’ve been in,” the former All Black explained.
