Academy trio selected for Junior Wallabies
Western Force Fortescue Academy players Siosifa Amone, Luke Callan and Alex Masibaka have all been selected for the Junior Wallabies squad for an upcoming Oceania Tournament.
Prop Amone (Associates), lock/flanker (number six) Callan (Wanneroo), and back-rower Masibaka (Associates) have all enjoyed strong local rugby campaigns with their respective Fortescue Premier Grade sides while continuing to hone their skills in the Academy setup.
This is a fantastic achievement by the trio with the restructured Academy having been launched in January this year.
Academy head coach Dylan Parsons was full of praise for the three promising young talents.
“This is a great opportunity that is fully deserved for all of their hard work within the Academy this year,” Parsons explained.
“It’s every player’s dream to represent their country and we’re all really excited to see these boys tested at this level.
“With the help of Fortescue and the Future Force Foundation, this group has been given the chance to better themselves as players and people on and off the field in a professional environment. This is another step in the pathway for them to become Force Super Rugby players and ultimately Wallabies.”
19-year-old Masibaka, who has represented WA at all representative levels, as well as Australia Under 18’s, is looking forward to the challenge.
“A lot of hard work and time has been put in with the Academy and it’s really rewarding to be in the squad,” Masibaka said.
“To be selected alongside other boys in the Academy is great. I’m looking forward to competing, seeing our final product as a team, and seeing how good we can be.
“I’m really excited. We’ve had a few camps already this year and they’ve been great experiences, so I can’t wait to link up with the squad.”
The Junior Wallabies will assemble on June 27th in Queensland before taking part in the Oceania Championship in early July.
