Sitaleki Timani joins the Emirates Western Force for his first season of professional rugby after a stint with NRL club the Cronulla Sharks.

The 21-year-old developed his love for rugby in the Tongan village of Kolonga, where he was born alongside six other siblings.

His talents were instantly recognised at Liahona High School, where he was selected in the Tongan schoolboys’ team before winning a scholarship to attend Auckland Grammar School in NZ.

After completing his Year 11 and 12 studies in NZ, Timani relocated to Australia but due to qualification laws in the Super 14 tournament, was forced to switch to rugby league to continue his development as a footballer. He played one season in the Sharks under 20’s team before being elevated to reserve grade in just his second year at the club.

Timani is a powerful addition to the Emirates Western Force forwards unit, and is an extremely valuable one given the departure of experienced campaigner Rudi Vedelago.
