The quiet but powerful centre made his Investec Super 14 debut against the Highlanders in round one of the 2007 competition and scored his first try, against the Stormers, the following week. He had to wait until the round 13 clash against the Cheetahs to score his second, going on to bag a brace for the match just seconds before the close. Returning to rugby union after nine seasons of rugby league with Sydney Roosters, the one-time Australian Schoolboys fullback played his first come-back game for a World XV against South Africa in London. One of only six players to play in all of the Emirates Force’s Super 14 games in 2007, Ryan appeared in all five of the Australia A games in the Pacific Nations Cup. He joined the Wallabies squad ahead of the Bledisloe Cup match in Melbourne and was the only Emirates Western Force player selected in the World Cup shadow squad.
