Students from across Perth have shown off their rugby skills at the Smarter Than Smoking Year 8 and 10 Rugby Carnival held late last week. Schools such as Maranatha Christian College and Irene McCormack traveled from as traveled from as far south as Rockingham and as far north as Quinns Rock respectively to compete.
The carnival was run as a 10-a-side competition with all teams playing a minimum of four games in both the yr 8 and 10 age groups. The teams with the highest cumulative points tally at the end of the rounds played in the finals at the end the carnival.
The carnival, held at Britannia Road Reserve, the home of junior club rugby, also included teams from CBC Fremantle, Christ Church Grammar, Clarkson CHS, John Forrest SHS, Newman College and Thornlie SHS.
All players were presented with Emirates Western Force visors for playing such entertaining and positive rugby. The year 8 final was contested by Thornlie and Irene McCormack, with Thornlie the eventual winners. The year 10 final featured Clarkson and John Forrest, with Clarkson taking the honours.
RugbyWA would like to thank all of the teachers, students and volunteers, with special mention to referees Dr Patrick Mulhern, Callum Francis and Joe Dunn, who made the Smarter Than Smoking Year 8 and 10 Rugby Carnival such a success, and look forward to seeing everyone involved in our CSC Competitions for the remainder of the year and beyond.
