Profile
Angus Cottrell is a hardworking member of the Emirates Western Force back row. The ‘no frills’ player has made the most of each opportunity set before him to now hold a position within the Emirates Western Force senior squad. Cottrell, who did not progress through the regular representative channels, was spotted playing for Brisbane club, Wests, and offered a place with the Emirates Western Force on their Samoan tour at the end of 2011. After impressing in the two matches, he was offered an Extended Playing Squad contract that would see him make his Super Rugby debut off the bench against the Brumbies. Initially identified as a longer-term project, Cottrell played seven matches in his rookie season, starting in four, with an elbow injury preventing him playing more. The 23-year-old’s performances have featured a high work rate and the ability to thrive in contact, at set piece and at the breakdown.
