Profile
Phoenix Battye is a lofty young lock who made his Super Rugby debut against the Reds in Brisbane last year. The two-metre-plus second-rower is one of the tallest tight forwards in Australian Super Rugby and a reliable go-to in the lineout. Battye joined the Emirates Western Force on a rookie contract for 2011 before progressing to earn his first start in Brisbane last year against the Reds in Week Two. He held down a bench place for 11 matches before a shoulder injury – requiring a reconstruction – ended his season. However, an intensive off-season rehabilitation program will see the former Australian Under 20 representative available for selection at the beginning of the season, as he looks to pack down alongside the likes of fellow locks Toby Lynn, Sam Wykes, Hugh McMeniman and Ben McCalman.
