ProfileKieran Longbottom is a powerful, locally-produced loosehead prop, who lines up for his sixth season of Super Rugby with the Emirates Western Force. After representing the Western Australian province in 14 matches during 2011, a neck injury restricted the 27-year-old to just eight last season with starts against the Hurricanes in Perth and the Rebels in Melbourne. The burly bookend is the first born-and-bred WA player to progress into the Emirates Western Force ranks with his current contract keeping him in Perth until 2014. The 2011 Force Man award recipient began his rugby career with Rockingham Under 14’s and has risen through the club rugby ranks, representative sides and Bankwest Academy to be a permanent fixture in the Emirates Western Force squad. With a Shute Shield premiership and Australian Rugby Shield title to his name, Longbottom will be pushing his case for regular selection in the Emirates Western Force run-on side in 2013.Timeline2003Member of the Western Australia side that defeats Victoria 15-12 in the final of the Division II Australian Schools Championships.2004Represents Queensland University Colts.2005Member of the Australian Rugby Shield-winning Perth Gold side that defeats Queensland Country Heelers 18-11 in the final.2006Member of the Perth Gold side that finishes runner-up to ACT & SNSW Vikings in the Australian Rugby Shield, losing 27-20 in the final.2007Member of the Perth Spirit side that finishes third in the Australian Rugby Championship, only to be knocked out 27-19 in the semi-finals by eventual champions, the Central Coast Rays.2008Makes his Super Rugby debut in the Emirates Western Force’s 22-21 win over the Chiefs in Week 12; plays further Super Rugby matches against the Hurricanes and Brumbies.2009Represents Rockingham, who finish eighth in Perth’s Premier Grade; represents Eastwood First Grade side that finishes fifth in Sydney’s Shute Shield.2010Represents Rockingham, who finish ninth in Perth’s Premier Grade; represents Eastwood who are knocked out by Randwick, 23-21, in their Shute Shield preliminary final.2011Plays 14 matches for the Emirates Western Force, starting in five; earns his first Super Rugby run-on start in the 27-19 win over the Brumbies receives the Force Man award for the Emirates Western Force; starts at loosehead prop for Eastwood in their 19-16 Shute Shield grand final win over Sydney University; captains the Emirates Western Force in the 37-10 loss to the Samoan President’s XV in Apia.2012Plays eight matches during the Super Rugby season, starting in two; undergoes surgery mid-season on a neck complaint.
