The Third Grade Black premiership has been won by Mandurah at McGillivray Oval today with the minor premiers taking victory over Curtin Uni 19-13.
Curtin opened the scoring account when Mandurah were penalised in front of the posts and Craig Tulloch slotted the penalty. Mandurah’s Andrew Taitoko claimed back the lead for his side with two successful penalty kicks to take the score to 6-3.
Viliami Halalilo found his way past the Curtin defenders to extend Mandurah’s lead to 13-3 with Taitoko’s successful kick at goal.
Curtin was quick to close the gap to three points again with Adrien Bourgault and Tulloch combining for a converted try. The two sides traded penalties again to take the score to 16-13 at the half time break.
In the second half the sides traded possession as they fought it out for premiership glory but a lapse in concentration saw Curtin give up a penalty and Taitoko’s kick was again on target.
A last ditch effort from Curtin Uni wasn’t enough as they pressured the line but were penalised by the referee and Mandurah kicked it out to end the game 19-13.
