Eight players from Western Australia have been selected for the Combined States side to compete in the National Indigenous Under 16 Championships to be held on the Gold Coast this weekend.
Sione and Thomas Ashworth, Tre Meunier, Clifton Morris, Jamal Ware, Khalin Lockyer, Koree Walker-Ryan and Cassieus Cornus will go head to head against sides from Southern NSW & ACT, Northern NSW, South Queensland, North Queensland and the Northern Territory.
The annual tournament, held at Palm Beach Currumbin, is hosted by the Lloyd McDermott Rugby Development Team and aims to provide a representative pathway for aspiring indigenous rugby players.
The event will culminate in Monday’s finals and the selection of the National Indigenous Team to compete at the National Under 16 Schoolboy Championships in Sydney from September 30.
The Championships commence on Saturday with an opportunity for participants to share their diverse culture and distinct backgrounds in a healthy and supportive environment. Matches begin on Sunday with the finals decided on Monday.
